Tamara Tempera
Born into a family of opera singers and theatre professionals in Rome, Italy, I have a degree in Law – specialising in copyright and contracts – and an MA in Management of the Cultural Institutions, both from the University of RomaTre. In 2008, I moved to London to study for an LLM Entertainment Law at the University of Westminster; I then won a scholarship to take part in a Leisure, Entertainment and Governance post-graduate course at NTNU University of Trondheim, Norway.
My hands-on knowledge of the classical music industry and highly honed negotiating and networking skills led me to work with internationally renowned cultural organisations and artists for the past twenty years.
Previous employers and clients include the likes of Athole Still Opera, Friends of Dulwich Picture Gallery, Armonico Consort & AC Academy, Marcello Italian Film Festival, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Polyphony Arts, London Composers Forum, Audition Oracle, Music Management for Dance, choreographer Jessica Edgley’s Uphill, pianist Sandro Cuccuini’s TBM Project, composer Angela Slater’s Connected Skies and several other artists and projects, both in the UK and in Italy, where I am now based.
Why Butterfly Artists
The butterfly has always had a special meaning for me.
I became fascinated by it as a teenager, when I visited the Butterfly House in Vienna with my parents: the image of all those exotic lepidoptera flying around us undisturbed is still vivid in my mind. I have since visited several butterfly houses in my travels, and the joy they bring is always the same.
It was while singing in a concert performance of Madama Butterfly for a charity in Rome a couple of decades ago that I met who would have become my better half. Who would have thought…
And it was (also) for a project of urban redevelopment from old industrial site to butterfly house that I decided to move back to Italy in 2020, although unfortunately the project hasn’t seen the light yet.
Like a butterfly, I too have lived many lives; I too have had to transform and adapt to new environments and start afresh many times. Butterfly Artists is a new phase, one that I hope will make the artists I work with reveal their splendour.
